PCCs are rifles. These are carbines with calibers usually associated with pistols. For the purposes of this discussion, we are not talking about 7.62×39 or 5.56 or any of the smaller rifle rounds that are becoming more popular for handguns.

No one seems to agree on what PDW is. Is it a small gun that fires a small high powered bullet? Some use the term PDW for a handgun that is normally made in the form of a rifle, but is made as a handgun instead (since you can't call it a carbine if it's a legal handgun). The term PDW is used loosely and can include actual SBRs, compact pistols that fire in rifle caliber, and even conversion kits that add functionality to a pistol by mounting it on a chassis or swap above it.
This is a deep philosophical discussion for those of us steeped in gun culture. Consider the premise. If you could only have one type of pistol caliber platform, what would it be? Would you make a decision based on the gun? Would you make a decision based on the magazine?
Currently, some of the most popular guns in these categories have their own magazines. It's usually in a brand's best interest to sell you something that will keep you coming back to them. For this purpose, some rifles run on their own cartridges. The Scorpion by CZ. Small SIGs.
Ruger asked. They'll say no and stick to their guns, so to speak, but imagine how much the Mini-14 and Mini-30 would sell for if those pistols ran AR or AK magazines. Ruger knows this too and has gone in a different direction with recent launches (more to come).

Who makes the absolute best magazine in terms of reliability and functionality? Maybe it's a Glock, maybe it's not. But Glock mags work, even when abused.
Perhaps we should look at it from a different angle. What if we just want to make a gun that uses one of the most common pistol cartridges? Glocks 9mm is still a winner.
They don't have to be Glock mags, actually. The essence of this biscuit is simply having a rifle that runs in the same caliber and has the same magazines as your pistol.
Let's go back a little to the end of the 19th century. If you think ammo is hard to come by now... Supply lines are thin in the territories. For many, the loader is a practical choice, as all you need is the raw ammunition. Cartridges changed that though. If you have a rifle and a pistol that fire the same bullet, you will only need to get one type of bullet.

The original pistol calibers, the old Henry and Winchester, were quite weak compared to the big bore rifles and rolling blocks, but they worked. The Colt 1873 and the Winchester 1873 chambered for the same round are a solid pair.
PCC fans know PSA. They make excellent rifles and pistols. Like many other AR manufacturers, they changed the platform to include 9mm ARs running Glock magnums. They are available in rifle and pistol configurations.
Pistol-caliber ARs provide a really solid option for anyone who regularly trains with an AR-15. The manual of arms is very similar. Muscle memory is easily transferred. The mage changes are strange at first, but the transition is easy enough.
And 9mm rocks from a longer barrel. Almost all 9mms are formulated to be fired from a 5 inch barrel. This usually represents the factory speed numbers found on the box. So more barrels to hold the burning powder usually results in higher velocities.

The Palmetto State AR-9 is a solid option for anyone who owns a Glock 19 or 17. Or a stack of G17 magazines. Or a drum?
If you want a high-end, AR-based Glock mag fed 9mm Parabellum, the Wilson Combat AR9 may be right for you. They are less common. I have never shot one, but I have shot many Wilson Combat rifles. They work. From their 1911s to their Beretta mods to their rifles and shotguns, Wilson Combat has a great reputation.
Kel-Tec never achieved the polish that defined Wilson, but they invented a gun that any company on this list could be proud to call their own. And the Sub2000 is the best example.
Sub2K fold. Although not the easiest to charge, it is compact. The design is also ridiculously stable. It is, in my opinion, the perfect truck gun. With a 33 round Glock magazine, it becomes a fantastic tool.

My only gripe with the Sub2K is that the top rail needs to be empty in order for it to fold effectively. This gun screams red dot, but it's not always practical. You can put a laser under the rail, like the Viridian X5L. It makes an effective hand stop and can add light and laser.
The Ruger PC Carbine is another very popular option. The gun incorporates all the adjustability that the older Ruger Minis ignored.
Ruger builds on the functionality that makes the PCC customizable. They are capable guns in their own right. They have proven to be reliable. They are still affordable (if you can find them in stock). They are easy to service and run continuously...the list goes on.
Like many of these rifles, the Ruger PCC has plenty of rail space for adding accessories. And the magazine ports on this gun are interchangeable, so you get even more customization. But really–GLOCK mags.

The Banshee also comes in a variety of configurations. Each is essentially the same concept — a compact evolution of the AR platform. Many of them carry 9mm Glock magazines.
Banshee is a very popular platform in all its calibers. CMMG refines actions to make each reliable. That's to be expected for a gun in this price range.
The least expensive of the CMG Glock compatible 9mm is the pistol version, the CMMP Banshee 100, MKGS, 100, which has an MSRP of $1,249.95.
The Mech Tech Systems Classic is a pistol to carbine conversion. The setup allows you to take your existing gun (there are many models, but we're focusing on Glocks here) and add a longer barrel and more functional work surfaces.

Mech Tech options are not guns themselves, so they can be shipped directly to buyers.
CAA Roni is similar in performance. This is one of the best-known and best-selling versions of this concept. Again, the Roni is a cartridge case that you put into your existing gun. Glock variants have been making waves for years.
The Micro Ronis are actually quite compact, but add a large amount of rail space. While you may not have a longer barrel than some earlier models, you do get functionality.
What next? If it were up to me, I would build a Glock rifle. A rifle made by Glock. That blew the sale of all these weapons together out of the known waters. Where's the Glock? We have been waiting for years.
